If you use fusion reactors, energy tech increases the amount of energy they put out and decreases the amount of duet they require. its not a huge difference but some people have calculated with a high enough energy tech the fusion reactor makes a bigger energy difference and is more profitable to use for energy. ( i personally just use solar plants and sats)

That's kind of what I thought... maybe if you had a few planets in slot 15. Even then it seems like you'd run out of space.
